Couple Arrested After Shooting Incident on Wodehouse Street in Komani

Police have confirmed that a shooting incident took place on Wodehouse Street in Komani on Saturday, 7 March, following a dispute between a couple.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the incident occurred after an argument between a boyfriend and his girlfriend escalated.

Mgolodela said the boyfriend allegedly began firing shots randomly during the quarrel.

“The girlfriend contacted police and the boyfriend fled before police arrived,” Mgolodela confirmed.

Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving the call for assistance. However, the situation reportedly took a further turn when officers arrived.

According to Mgolodela, the girlfriend allegedly swore at police officers and assaulted them when they attempted to respond to the incident.

Police then contacted the boyfriend and instructed him to return to the scene.

Both the boyfriend and girlfriend were subsequently arrested and are currently in police custody.

At this stage, police have not indicated whether any injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

Authorities have also not yet confirmed the exact charges the pair may face.

The incident caused concern among residents in the area, as reports of gunfire prompted alarm in the normally busy neighbourhood.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

SAPS has urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to report any criminal activity to the authorities.
