Clean Queenstown Kicks Off 2026 With Ebden Street Rose Garden Clean-Up in Komani
Komani, Eastern Cape — The non-profit organisation Clean Queenstown began 2026 with a clean-up at the historic rose gardens on Ebden Street in Komani. Both gardens had become heavily overgrown, with long grass and weeds covering the rose bushes.
Overgrown Gardens
Clean Queenstown visited the two Ebden Street gardens and found both areas densely covered with grass and weeds, making it difficult to see any of the original roses. On the way to the gardens, the team also noticed several other neglected areas in the town, highlighting the need for clean-up initiatives.
Cleaning Efforts
#CleanQueenstown focused on clearing one of the two gardens, removing overgrowth and tidying the space. The work was physically demanding, with the team enduring hot summer sun and brief rain showers, but they successfully made a visible difference in the cleared garden area.
Part of #CleanQueenstown
This clean-up is part of the #CleanQueenstown initiative, which aims to maintain public spaces, improve environmental conditions, and encourage community involvement in Komani.
A Successful Start to the Year
The Ebden Street gardens project marked a strong start to the organisation’s 2026 activities. By clearing one garden, Clean Queenstown demonstrated what could be achieved through coordinated volunteer work.
The project highlights the role of community-based clean-ups in restoring public spaces, making them safer and more appealing, and fostering pride in Komani.
