ATM strengthens ties with traditional leaders in Enoch Mgijima
The ATM in Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality says it is strengthening its working relationship with local traditional leaders, with a focus on youth development, agricultural projects and job creation.
In a statement on 12 August, ATM regional executive member Riccardo Mc Donald confirmed that the partnership aims at “putting our people first” through community-driven programmes rolled out together with traditional leadership.
He announced that the next engagement will be held on 9 September 2026, where most members of the royal house are expected to attend.
“The event is being organised by Subregional Chairperson Siphelo Ndarala, RET member Riccardo Mc Donald, and Ward 11 candidate Bulelani Qowa,” he said.
The ATM also confirmed it “has the support of our traditional leaders for the upcoming LGE 2026 elections.”
Traditional leaders have played an increasingly visible role in local governance in the Eastern Cape, particularly around land, agriculture and community mobilisation.
Mc Donald said the upcoming meeting will outline specific agricultural initiatives and youth programmes to be implemented in partnership with the royal houses.
