Ramaphosa to Address Nation on GBVF and Ekurhuleni Killings
President Cyril Ramaphosa will address South Africans on Tuesday evening, 29 September 2026 in Pretoria, on government’s response to gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), as well as investigations into the murders of women in and around Ekurhuleni.
The Presidency confirmed that the address is scheduled to begin at 19:00.
According to the Presidency, Ramaphosa will outline steps being taken by government to confront GBVF, which remains a major concern across the country.
The President is also expected to provide an update on investigations into the murders of women in and around the City of Ekurhuleni.
Ramaphosa had already indicated during his National Heritage Day address in Oudtshoorn on 24 September that he would soon address the country on the issue.
During that address, he described the abuse, rape and killing of women as a national concern and said government would provide South Africans with an update on the investigation into the killings in Ekurhuleni.
Tuesday evening’s address is therefore expected to provide further information on both the investigation and government’s broader response to GBVF.
The Presidency has not, in its announcement of the address, provided details of what specific measures or investigative developments Ramaphosa will announce.
The address will be carried through a broadcast feed provided by the SABC and will also be livestreamed on the Presidency’s digital platforms.
It is scheduled for 19:00 on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.
