EASTERN CAPE — The Eastern Cape Department of Transport has dismissed allegations circulating about an oil spillage on the N2 at the Kei Cuttings, which rumours claimed was caused by breakdown operators.
The department clarified that there is currently no verified evidence to support these claims, warning that such allegations should not be presented as fact without proper verification and supporting evidence.
Concerns were raised by the department regarding the potential impact of these unfounded claims on its working relationship with breakdown operators. The department noted that these operators remain important stakeholders in the management of road incidents and the restoration of safe traffic flow.
While reaffirming its commitment to investigating and addressing legitimate concerns related to road safety and incident management, the department stressed that such matters must be handled responsibly and based purely on verified information.
The department has urged all stakeholders and road users to refrain from making or circulating unsubstantiated allegations. It cautioned that spreading unverified claims may unfairly damage the reputations of individuals or service providers and undermine constructive working relationships in the sector.
