Seven people have died following a devastating collision between a minibus taxi and a bus in KwaNobuhle, Eastern Cape, in an incident that has left the community in shock.
According to information available at this stage, the crash occurred when a fully loaded minibus taxi transporting workers from KwaNobuhle towards town allegedly made a U-turn in front of an oncoming Algoa Bus. The bus, which reportedly had only the driver on board, then collided with the passenger side of the taxi.
The impact caused significant damage to the taxi, particularly on the passenger side, where most of the occupants were seated.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where a total of 18 people were attended to. Authorities confirmed that seven people were declared dead as a result of the crash.
Two people sustained serious injuries, while several others suffered injuries ranging from moderate to minor. All injured patients were stabilised on scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities for further treatment.
Officials have not yet released the identities of the deceased, as families are still being notified.
