Komani mom Ulandi Jordaan still fighting as support needed

A Komani mother who captured the community’s heart earlier this year is still facing a difficult road to recovery, with her family once again appealing for continued support.

Ulandi Jordaan, a Komani/Queenstown resident, wife of Queen’s College Old Boy Terance Jordaan (Class of 1996), and mother to Joshua (19) and Dylan (22), has been living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) since 2010 — a progressive condition that has gradually impacted her mobility over the past 16 years.

Her story, previously reported by Komani News, prompted a strong response from the community, with donations helping the family manage some of the immediate financial pressure.

But months later, her situation remains serious.

Ongoing recovery after life-threatening setback

In September 2025, Ulandi developed a severe pressure injury linked to prolonged immobility, which later became infected and led to sepsis.

She was admitted to ICU at Life Queenstown Private Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. The procedure left her with a large and complex wound requiring ongoing specialised care at home.

While treatment initially included Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT), considered best practice for such wounds, the therapy was later stopped due to financial constraints.

She is now continuing with less effective wound care, which increases the risk of complications, including possible reinfection.

Financial pressure continues despite community support

The Jordaan family says the support received so far has made a meaningful difference — but it has not been enough to cover the full extent of the medical and household costs.

According to information previously shared, key aspects of her post-hospital wound care have not been covered by medical aid, leaving the family with mounting medical debt.

With doctors advising that Ulandi remain at home for recovery and not return to work for at least three months, the household is currently reliant on a single income.

The financial strain remains severe.

Community urged to keep helping

The Jordaan family is once again appealing to the Komani community not to lose momentum.

The earlier wave of support showed how quickly residents can come together in times of need. Now, they hope that same spirit can continue as Ulandi navigates this critical stage of her recovery.

Every contribution, no matter the size, can help cover essential medical care and basic living expenses.
