Big Wins and Close Battles at Border Schools’ Rugby Day

DALE COLLEGE, QONCE – School rugby fans were treated to a full day of high-energy action on Saturday as the Border Schools’ Rugby Day Under-19 fixtures wrapped up at Dale College.

The annual tournament brought together top rugby schools and regional teams from across the Eastern Cape, giving young players a valuable opportunity to compete at a high level and showcase their talent.

Several tightly contested matches and strong attacking performances marked the day, with Queen’s College producing one of the standout victories of the tournament.

Queen’s College delivers strong performance

Queen’s College Boys’ High School recorded an impressive 41–15 win over Cambridge High School, displaying attacking flair and disciplined defence.

The Komani-based side controlled much of the match and capitalised on scoring opportunities to secure one of the most decisive results of the day.

The victory added excitement for Queen’s supporters who travelled to Qonce for the annual rugby showcase.

Close contests highlight the tournament

Several fixtures produced closely fought battles.

In the opening match of the day, Lilyfontein High School edged George Randell High School 15–10 in a tight encounter.

Another dramatic clash saw Selborne College and Stirling High School finish level at 19–19, one of the most competitive matches of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Port Rex Technical High School narrowly defeated Ooskus Gimnasium 10–5, showing strong defensive play to hold off their opponents.

Regional teams show their strength

The regional clash between Queenstown Region and Mdantsane Region also produced an exciting contest.

Mdantsane Region managed to secure a 26–19 victory, demonstrating the depth of talent emerging from rugby development structures across the province.

These regional teams play an important role in identifying and nurturing young players who may go on to represent higher levels of the game.

Hosts Dale College claim solid win

Host school Dale College also enjoyed success on home turf, defeating Hudson Park High School 15–3 in front of local supporters.

The home side maintained control for much of the match and defended well to prevent Hudson Park from gaining momentum.

The victory provided a fitting end to the Under-19 fixtures at the prestigious school rugby event.
