Local Company Steps In to Help St Theresa Primary Learners With Shoes

Komani, Eastern Cape – A local security company has stepped in to assist learners at St Theresa Primary School after the school identified several children who were struggling to afford basic school necessities.

On 12 March, Watchful Safety and Security, led by owner Callen Watson, provided school shoes and small essential items to six learners who had been identified by the school as being in urgent need of support.

According to Watson, one of the company’s staff members was approached by the school regarding learners who were facing challenges obtaining basic items such as school shoes.

The school was then asked to identify the learners who were currently most in need of assistance. Based on this request, six learners were identified.

“The youth are the future. We want to help build a solid foundation and assist where we can so that they do not face these challenges later in life,” he said.

Community Initiative

While the donation focused on six learners at St Theresa Primary School, Watson said the company hopes to continue assisting young people in similar ways where possible.

The learners received school shoes as well as a few additional small items to support their daily school activities.

Community initiatives like this often help ensure that learners who may be struggling with basic necessities are able to attend school with essential items required for their education.
