KOMANI  — An unplanned water supply interruption left residents in several Westbourne areas without water on Wednesday after a major pipeline was damaged during construction work.

The Chris Hani District Municipality confirmed that the interruption was caused by a burst pipe linked to activities by a construction company operating on site. The incident resulted in an immediate loss of water supply to affected suburbs, prompting an urgent response from municipal teams.

The disruption is impacting water supply to:

  • Westbourne Park

  • Westbourne

  • Weshof

Residents in these areas reported taps running dry shortly after the incident, with some households forced to rely on stored water while repair work continues.

Municipality and contractor on site

Municipal technical teams, working alongside the contractor involved, were dispatched to the scene to assess the damage and carry out repairs. The municipality said work is actively underway to stabilise the pipeline and restore water supply, although no official timeframe for completion has yet been communicated.
