Unknown Man Found Dead in River Near Tylden, Police Seek Family
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified man whose body was found in a river near Tylden on Monday, 9 February 2026.
The body was discovered inside a river at Lausanne Farm in the Imvani area, outside Tylden. Emergency services were called to the scene, where the man was declared dead.
SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela confirmed the incident and provided details surrounding the discovery.
“The deceased was found inside the river in Lausanne Farm Imvani, lying on his stomach and shirtless, wearing khaki trousers. He had injuries on the face and multiple bruises. The deceased is unknown. An ambulance was called, and he was certified dead at the scene,” said Captain Mgolodela.
Police confirmed that the deceased has not yet been identified, and efforts are underway to establish his identity and trace his family. At this stage, no further details regarding how the man ended up in the river have been released.
Captain Mgolodela said a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death and to assist investigators in establishing the circumstances surrounding the incident.
She added that SAPS are appealing to members of the public who may have lost a relative or loved one to come forward.
“Whoever might have lost a loved one through drowning is requested to visit Komani Forensic Department at Komani Hospital as the post-mortem will be in progress,” she said.
Police have not confirmed whether foul play is suspected at this stage, and investigations are continuing. The outcome of the post-mortem examination is expected to provide further clarity.
Residents in the surrounding areas have been urged to report any information that may assist police, including reports of missing persons who may match the description provided.
SAPS have reiterated that the investigation remains ongoing and that further updates will be communicated once more information becomes available.
