Strong performances mark Selborne’s weekend against Queen’s Junior

Selborne Primary enjoyed an exceptional weekend of cricket against Queen’s Junior, with teams from U9 to U13 producing outstanding performances both home and away.

The two schools met across two days of competitive fixtures in Queenstown (Komani), with matches played in the spirit of sportsmanship and school pride. Selborne claimed a majority of wins, underlining their strong depth and talent throughout the junior age groups.

Friday, 7 November – T20 Fixtures 

Four Selborne sides — U9A, U10A, U11A, and U13A — travelled to Queenstown on Friday to take on their Queen’s Junior counterparts in T20 matches.

• U9A: Selborne 87/8, Queen’s 89/1 – Selborne lost by 9 wickets

• U10A: Selborne 157/3 (Asher McGarry 41 off 40), Queen’s 133/6 – Selborne won by 24 runs

• U11A: Queen’s 84/10, Selborne 85/3 – Selborne won by 7 wickets

• U13A: Selborne 140/10 (Luke Lategan 60 off 41), Queen’s 109/4 – Selborne won by 31 runs

It was a strong day overall for Selborne, with impressive individual batting displays from Asher McGarry and Luke Lategan, who both led their sides to comfortable victories. The U11A team also impressed with a convincing seven-wicket win.

Saturday, 8 November – 50-Over Fixtures 

Saturday saw another full schedule of fixtures as Selborne’s U10B, U13B, and U13C sides travelled to Queenstown, while the U9B and U11B teams hosted Queen’s in East London.

Selborne continued their dominant form across the board, securing a string of victories highlighted by outstanding individual milestones.

• U9A: Queen’s 105/8, Selborne 109/7 – Selborne won by 3 wickets

• U9B: Queen’s 141/5, Selborne 144/5 – Selborne won by 5 wickets

• U10A: Selborne 227/10 (Murray Hobbs 51 off 61), Queen’s 181/10 – Selborne won by 46 runs

• U10B: Selborne 156/10, Queen’s 150/10 – Selborne won by 6 runs

• U11A: Selborne 324/4 (Campbell Howell 101* off 114, Dhruv Santhia 75 off 81, Harrison Turner 65 off 32), Queen’s 139/10 – Selborne won by 185 runs

• U11B: Selborne 319/9 (Grayson de Lange 75 off 84, Liam Tharatt 55 off 36), Queen’s 45/10 (Jedd Nel 4/4) – Selborne won by 274 runs

• U13C: Selborne 355/7 (Vuyo Foslara 100* off 68), Queen’s 85/10 (Axolile Lali 7/18) – Selborne won by 270 runs

• U13B: Selborne 211/10 (James Naude 47 off 51, Thomas Jackson 46 off 54), Queen’s 161/10 – Selborne won by 50 runs

• U13A: Selborne 221/9 (Zac Leighton 60* off 113, Brody Schemel 42 off 70), Queen’s 179/9 – Selborne won by 42 runs

It was a day filled with superb all-round performances, including centuries from Campbell Howell (U11A) and Vuyo Foslara (U13C), and a remarkable seven-wicket haul by Axolile Lali (7/18) — one of the standout bowling figures of the weekend.

Selborne’s batting depth shone through, with multiple half-centuries and high-scoring partnerships across all age groups, while the bowlers maintained pressure and consistency to close out matches effectively.

Across both days, Selborne Primary secured an impressive majority of wins across ten age-group fixtures — a testament to their strong coaching structure, balanced team play, and dedication to junior cricket development.

Performances from players such as Luke Lategan, Campbell Howell, Vuyo Foslara, Axolile Lali, and Zac Leighton highlighted the school’s exciting crop of young talent.
