Heavy Downpour Floods Main Street in Tarkastad
TARKASTAD, Eastern Cape – A heavy downpour hit the Tarkastad area on Thursday night, leaving part of Main Street flooded and causing traffic disruptions.
Water flowed across a large section of the town’s main road after the intense rainfall, with nearly half of the street submerged at one stage.
A video taken at the scene shows water spreading across the roadway while vehicles moved slowly through the flooded area.
Komani News reported on the flooding last night and warned motorists to approach the area with caution. Drivers were urged to slow down, avoid deep water and make use of alternative routes where possible.
At the time of publication, there were no confirmed reports of injuries linked to the incident. It is also unclear whether any vehicles were damaged.
Flooded roads can be particularly dangerous at night, as standing water may hide potholes or debris and increase the risk of vehicles losing traction.
Motorists are advised to remain vigilant during heavy rainfall and avoid driving through water where the depth is unknown.
Authorities are expected to monitor the situation and assess whether any stormwater drainage issues contributed to the flooding.
