Half marathon to take runners along R61 and R67 in Komani.
A half marathon will take place in and around Komani on Saturday, 3 October 2026, with runners set to use sections of two of the major national routes leading out of the town.
The event will take place on sections of the R61 and R67 between 06:00 and 10:00, according to information released by the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL).
On the R61 Section 3, the event will extend from Komani in the direction of Tarkastad as far as the Whittlesea turnoff. SANRAL said approximately 8.4km of this section of the route will be used.
A second section of the race will make use of the R67 Section 5, travelling from Komani in the direction of Whittlesea as far as the Kammastone turnoff. Approximately 8.3km of this route will form part of the event.
Together, the two stretches identified by SANRAL account for approximately 16.7km of the routes being used during the half marathon.
Runners will use the road reserve rather than the normal traffic lanes, with the areas being used for the event clearly demarcated.
The race is expected to be active on both sections between 06:00 and 10:00 on Saturday morning.
Law enforcement and traffic officials will also be deployed along the affected sections to manage traffic and assist with the event.
SANRAL Eastern Cape Provincial Head Kayakazi Mafuta asked motorists travelling through the area during the race to plan their trips accordingly and exercise caution.
“Motorists are asked to plan their trips accordingly and to exercise caution when using the road,” Mafuta said.
SANRAL has apologised for any inconvenience caused while the half marathon is taking place.
