Evergreen Cash and Carry destroyed in massive Cofimvaba fire
A devastating fire destroyed Evergreen Cash and Carry in Cofimvaba during the early hours of Tuesday morning after the blaze broke out at about 03:20.
Emergency services and other responders rushed to the scene as flames tore through the building. Despite efforts to contain the fire, the business was completely gutted, with large sections of the structure destroyed.
Witnesses at the scene described thick smoke billowing into the air as firefighters worked for hours to try and bring the blaze under control. Additional water tankers were brought in to assist with firefighting operations due to the intensity of the fire.
Concerns were also raised about gas cylinders stored at the rear of the premises, prompting responders to exercise extreme caution while tackling the blaze.
Police were called to the scene to secure the area and help maintain order while emergency crews continued their operations.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and authorities are expected to investigate once the scene has been declared safe. No injuries had been confirmed at the time of publication.
