Cable Theft Attempt Leaves Parts of Komani Without Power
Several areas in Komani are without electricity following a foiled cable theft attempt near Westbourne in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The affected areas include Nkululekweni, Melton Gardens, the Waste Water Treatment Works and the Abattoir.
According to Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality (EMLM), the attempted theft resulted in damage to a T-switch, causing the unplanned power interruption.
“A foiled cable theft attempt in the early hours of this morning has led to a power interruption. Thieves attempting to steal a cable near Westbourne damaged the T-switch,” the municipality said.
A municipal team has been dispatched to assess the extent of the damage and carry out the necessary repairs.
The municipality said electricity would be restored as soon as the repair work is completed. No estimated restoration time was provided.
EMLM apologised to affected residents and businesses for the inconvenience caused.
The municipality has not provided further details about the attempted cable theft or whether any suspects were arrested.
