Two arrested after firearm and drug operations in Cofimvaba

Two men have been arrested in separate police operations in the Cofimvaba area following intelligence about an unlicensed firearm and alleged drug dealing.

The operations were carried out in the early hours of Friday, 28 August 2026, by a multidisciplinary team comprising members of the Komani K9 Unit, Komani Flying Squad, Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), Bridge Camp Crime Prevention Unit and Crime Intelligence.

Police first went to a homestead at Entlakwefolo Locality under the Qamata Administration Area, where they encountered a 19-year-old man.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the man gave police permission to search the premises.

During the search, police found a 9mm Norinco pistol with its serial number intact, a magazine, nine rounds of live ammunition and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The items were seized and the man was arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

SAPS said the firearm will undergo ballistic testing to establish whether it may be linked to any unresolved criminal cases.

The team then proceeded to a target house at Elalini Locality, also under the Qamata Administration Area.

Police said they encountered a 51-year-old man who also gave permission for the premises to be searched.

The search allegedly resulted in the discovery of 16 sachets of Tik valued at R1,600, along with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The items were seized and the man was arrested and charged with dealing in and possession of drugs.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31 August 2026.

The arrests form part of an intelligence-driven, multidisciplinary operation targeting suspected criminal activity in the Bridge Camp policing precinct.
