Komani communities unite through two-day sports tournament

The African National Congress Youth League in the Chris Hani Region is set to bring communities together with a two-day sports tournament aimed at promoting unity, talent development and healthy lifestyles among young people.

Hosted by the ANCYL Elijah Barayi Branch in Enoch Mgijima Ward 18, the tournament will take place on 8 to 9 August 2026 under the theme “Unity Through Sport”.

Organiser of the tournament Asanda Mnyani said the event forms part of the ANCYL’s commitment to _“All Sports. All People. One Community”_ and to create safe, constructive spaces for youth in Ndlovukazi and Zingquthu areas.

Three sporting codes, big prizes were up for grabs
The tournament will feature soccer, netball and pool table competitions.

Soccer fixtures include Green Leaves vs Elephants, Legendary FC vs Swallows, Shining Stars vs Zola Stars, Hot Spurs vs Soweto Stars, and Zingquthu United vs United, among 8 teams in total.

Netball fixtures saw Masters take on Thunderbirds, Young Professionals faced Zingquthu Tigers, Zingquthu United play Young Champs, and Academy go up against Mighty Angels.

For pool table, 7 match-ups were lined up including Seven Stars vs Lindi’s, Freedom A vs Blacks, and Zingquthu vs Zola Stars.

Ndlovukazi Sports Fields for soccer and netball, and Mjondolo for pool table.

Organizers confirmed that cash prizes, trophies and medals will be awarded to winners. Affiliation to participate is free, but only teams from Ndlovukazi and Zingquthu are eligible to take part.

Mnyani said sport remains a key tool to unite communities and keep youth engaged.

The ANCYL Elijah Barayi Branch has urged all participants to play in the spirit of discipline, respect and unity as the league continues its _“Youth in Action”_ program across the Chris Hani Region.
