ActionSA vows to contest every ward in Enoch Mgijima

ActionSA says it is preparing to contest every ward in the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality as the party ramps up its campaign ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The party this week hosted Athol Trollip during a two-day visit to the Chris Hani region, from 6 to 7 July, where he met local candidates, community members and party structures.

According to a statement released by Trollip, he visited Ward 26 in Sada/Whittlesea at Zinyoka Village, eDongwe, and Ward 19 at Brak Kloof, where ActionSA has selected local branch chairpersons as its ward candidates.

Trollip said both candidates were well known in their communities for raising local issues and representing residents.

The visit concluded with a meeting at the Queenstown Library Hall, where ActionSA candidates from across the municipality introduced themselves and explained why they had chosen to stand for election.

Trollip said many candidates believed the current municipal administration had failed to deliver on its constitutional responsibilities, pointing to ongoing service delivery challenges in Komani and surrounding towns and villages.

He claimed residents in some communities continue to experience prolonged water shortages despite water infrastructure having been installed, and said many also complained about unreliable electricity supply. He further alleged that some communities were relying on charitable water deliveries.

Trollip described the party’s candidates as ordinary residents who experience the same challenges faced by their communities.

“There are no superstars, no connected cadres, no failed councillors or administrators, just ordinary people who’ve had enough,” he said.

ActionSA says it intends contesting every ward in the municipality and hopes to secure enough support to play a decisive role in the next council after the elections.

The party argues that coalition politics could help change the way the municipality is governed and says it wants greater influence over future decision-making in the council.
