Strong mandate claimed by ANC

The party described the result as an “overwhelming mandate” from residents in the Batandwa Ndondo sub-region within the Chris Hani Region. It said the outcome reflects continued support for the ANC’s role in advancing development, dignity, and service delivery.

The ANC also thanked its internal leadership structures, volunteers, and supporters who participated in the campaign, saying their efforts were key to securing the result.

Criticism of opposition parties

In its statement, the ANC said voters had rejected what it described as “political posturing” and “fake alternatives,” instead choosing what it called stability and experience.

The party further argued that the result challenges claims that it is losing support, pointing to its two-thirds majority in the by-election as evidence of continued backing from voters in the area.

Commitments following the result

According to the ANC, the newly elected councillor is expected to establish a ward committee, create a service delivery structure, and provide regular feedback to residents. The party said the councillor would be expected to remain accessible and accountable to the community.

The ANC also committed to focusing on key service delivery issues in Sakhisizwe Municipality, including water provision, road maintenance, and youth unemployment.
