Komani, Eastern Cape — Learners at Spring Grove High School in Tendergate received much-needed support after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) sub-regional leadership donated sanitary towels to female learners at the school.

The initiative was led by Sub-Regional Chairperson Mandilakhe Matsolo and Sub-Regional Secretary Andisiwe Ngonyama, who were accompanied by members of the Sub-Regional Command Team (SRCT).

According to the EFF leadership, the donation forms part of ongoing community outreach efforts aimed at supporting young women and promoting access to education.

The leaders said the programme was designed to ensure that no learner misses school due to a lack of basic sanitary products, a challenge that continues to affect many young girls in under-resourced communities.

During the visit, the leadership engaged with learners and emphasised the importance of education, dignity and support for young women in schools.

Community-based initiatives such as sanitary towel drives have increasingly become part of broader efforts by organisations, political parties and non-profit groups to address period poverty, which can negatively impact school attendance and performance among female learners.

The EFF sub-regional leadership said it remains committed to supporting education and restoring dignity within communities through practical interventions that directly assist learners.

“This initiative aims to support young women and ensure that no learner misses school due to lack of basic sanitary products,” the leadership said.

They added that empowering young women and ensuring equal access to education remains an important priority for the organisation’s work at community level.

Local residents and school staff welcomed the donation, noting that such initiatives help address challenges faced by learners and contribute to improving the learning environment.
