Tensions rose in Ward 12 on Wednesday evening after residents of Aloevale gathered over concerns relating to blocked electricity meters and alleged illegal electricity connections in the nearby Aloe T informal settlement.

Community members earlier confirmed plans to meet at 18:00 near Elohim and Aloe T to address electricity supply issues that reportedly began on Tuesday.

Allegations of Blocked Electricity Meters

Residents allege that electricity meters in Aloevale were blocked from Tuesday, leaving households without power.

Community members further claimed that electricity supply in the adjacent Aloe T informal settlement continued uninterrupted, leading to frustration and accusations of unfair treatment. These allegations have not been independently verified.

During the evening, messages circulated indicating that police assistance was requested at the Assembly of God Church in Marigold Street, Aloevale. It was alleged that tensions escalated between residents and that threats were made to damage an electrical box.
