Truck overturns on Barkly Pass near Elliot

A truck overturned on the R58 at Barkly Pass near Elliot on Monday afternoon, resulting in two people sustaining injuries.

The incident occurred at approximately 15h49 on 11 May 2026. Emergency medical services, traffic officials, SAPS members and other response teams were dispatched to the scene.

The crash involved a truck that overturned along the mountainous Barkly Pass route, a road known for its steep gradients and challenging driving conditions, especially during poor weather or high winds.

EMS personnel assessed two male patients at the scene. One patient was classified as a yellow triage patient, indicating moderate injuries, while the second was classified as green, indicating minor injuries.

Both injured men were transported to Elliot Hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment and assessment. No fatalities were reported.

Motorists travelling through Barkly Pass were urged to proceed with caution due to the obstruction and emergency activity in the area.

Several emergency and law enforcement resources responded to the incident, including EMS units, traffic officials, SAPS members and towing services.
