Court Postpones Firearm Negligence Case Against ANC Politician

East London, 18 February 2026 – The East London Magistrate’s Court has once again postponed the firearm negligence case against ANC Chris Hani regional chair and Chris Hani District mayor, Lusanda Sizani.

The postponement was granted to allow the court to await a decision from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) regarding representations submitted on Sizani’s behalf. Both the state and Sizani’s legal team agreed to the delay.

The matter has been rescheduled for next Thursday, marking the seventh court appearance for Sizani in this case.

Sizani faces charges under the Firearms Control Act for alleged negligence and failure to secure his firearm after a personal 9 mm gun went missing during a vehicle break‑in in East London in early 2025.

At the time of the incident, his vehicle was driven by his bodyguard, Thisha Zulu, who had dropped him at an ANC meeting at the East London ICC.

Several senior ANC leaders from the Chris Hani region, including Dr AB Xuma mayor Siyabulela Zangqa and Enoch Mgijima mayor Madoda Papiyana, were present in court to support Sizani.
