Truck carrying diesel lands in ditch after Lesseyton stoning
A truck carrying diesel landed in a ditch along the N6 near Lesseyton outside Komani on Tuesday, 29 September, after stones were allegedly thrown at passing trucks.
Reports of the incident emerged on Tuesday morning, with information received by Komani News indicating that two trucks had been forced to stop and that police had been called to the area.
SAPS has since confirmed that two trucks travelling past Lesseyton were targeted.
Eastern Cape SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said Komani police could confirm that schoolboys from Lesseyton, who are currently on school holidays, allegedly threw stones at the two passing trucks.
According to Mgolodela, one of the trucks, which was transporting diesel, subsequently lost control and ended up in a ditch.
She said efforts were underway to recover the truck, but its load was complicating the operation.
“One truck loading diesel lost control and is stuck in the ditch. A tow truck that is attempting to remove the truck off the ditch is struggling as the truck is loading more than 4000 litres of diesel,” Mgolodela said.
Public Order Police members were deployed to the scene and were monitoring the situation.
No information was immediately provided regarding injuries arising from the incident.
Motorists travelling along the N6 through the Lesseyton area should exercise caution while the recovery operation and police presence continue.
Komani News will update the story should further information become available.
