Queen’s Dominate Dale in Weekend Cricket Fixtures

Queen’s College enjoyed a strong weekend on the cricket field, claiming victories in three of the four matches against Dale College. While Dale managed one win in the 2nd XI clash, the overall picture reflected a difficult period for Dale cricket, which has been in decline in recent years.

1st XI: Queen’s Hold Their Nerve
In the headline fixture, Dale were sent in to bat first and managed 142 all out in 26 overs. Queen’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with M Mbambo (4 for 30) and C Geza (3 for 14) leading the attack. Chasing the target, Queen’s batted steadily, reaching 146 for 6 in 43 overs. D Hayes top-scored with 47, while J Aucamp added 29. Queen’s sealed a 4-wicket victory.

2nd XI: Dale’s Only Win
The 2nd XI provided Dale with their lone success of the weekend. Queen’s batted first but collapsed to 112 all out in 31 overs, with Y Mquqwana (19) and S Ngumla (18) the only players to make double figures. Dale’s reply was nervy, but they got home at 113 for 7, winning by 3 wickets. Z Sobopha impressed with the ball for Queen’s, taking 3 for 25.

U15A: Crushing Defeat for Dale
The U15A clash was one-sided. Queen’s, batting first, piled on 289 for 6 in their 50 overs. K Zukiso anchored the innings with an unbeaten 83, while J Schmidt added 60. Dale never settled in their reply and were skittled for just 49. K Scharneck produced a remarkable spell of 6 for 14, while O Turi claimed 3 for 3. Queen’s ran out winners by a massive 240 runs.

U14A: Dale Blown Away Early
In the U14A encounter, Dale’s batting faltered badly. They were dismissed for only 43 in 14 overs, undone by L Prince (4 for 18) and R McKerry (3 for 5). Queen’s chased down the small target in five overs, finishing on 45 for 1, with M van Staden (14*) and K Adonis (12*) guiding their side to a 9-wicket win.

Dale’s Struggles Continue
These results underline a worrying trend for Dale cricket. Once regarded as a force in schoolboy cricket, Dale’s performances have dipped significantly in recent years, with heavy defeats across junior levels highlighting structural challenges in development. Queen’s, by contrast, continue to build strength across the board, widening the gap between the two old rivals.
