Missing Persons
Police seek help finding missing Gqeberha teenager.
Police in Gqeberha have appealed to the public for assistance in tracing 16-year-old Thamsanqa Tshefu, who has been missing since Sunday evening, 27 September 2026.
The Gqeberha Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit is investigating his disappearance after he was last seen in the Lombards Ground area of Missionvale.
According to police, at approximately 21:00 on Sunday, Thamsanqa’s mother was informed by neighbours that the shack where the teenager had been staying had burned down.
About an hour later, at approximately 22:00, Thamsanqa arrived at his mother’s home in Lombards Ground with a bleeding head.
Police said he did not explain to his mother what had happened or how he had sustained the injury.
A few minutes later, an unknown man reportedly arrived at the home and left with Thamsanqa. According to police, the man did not identify himself to Thamsanqa’s mother or tell her where they were going.
That was the last time the 16-year-old was seen.
Efforts to find Thamsanqa at the homes of relatives and friends have so far been unsuccessful.
At the time of his disappearance, he was reportedly wearing black and blue faded tracksuit pants, a white T-shirt and a white jersey.
A missing person report was subsequently opened at Algoa Park SAPS on Tuesday, 29 September.
Police are now calling on anyone who may have seen Thamsanqa since Sunday night, or who may have information about his whereabouts, to come forward.
Anyone who can assist with information is asked to contact Detective Warrant Officer Timothy Minyayo of the Gqeberha FCS Unit on 071 475 1731, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or submit information through the MySAPS App.
Information may be provided anonymously and will be treated confidentially.
