Police Briefing: Trio Appears in Court After Dramatic Komani Heist

Komani, Eastern Cape – The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner’s Office has confirmed that three suspects linked to the armed robbery at the Steers/Debonairs head office in Komani have appeared in court. The arrests follow a swift, coordinated response by law enforcement and private security units earlier this week.

Trio Appears in Court After Komani Robbery

According to the official police statement issued by Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, the suspects — Mandisa Mlumbi (39), Lulamile Sidondi (44), and Thulani Mafunxwana (46) — were arrested on Monday, 3 November 2025, and appeared before the Komani Magistrate’s Court on 5 November 2025. The trio is set to reappear today, 6 November 2025, as the investigation continues.

Police confirmed that the suspects face allegations of armed robbery following the incident that unfolded outside the Debonairs offices in Komani earlier this week.

Robbery Unfolds Outside Debonairs Headquarters

It is alleged that at around 08:30am on Monday morning, the victims — a Debonairs employee and a driver — arrived at the company offices after collecting cash from several branches in Komani. They were approached by two armed men who demanded the money. See article here

While the driver managed to flee, the cashier was unable to escape. The suspects reportedly took R50,000 in cash, safe keys, and various other items before fleeing the scene.

Law Enforcement Witness and Swift Response

A law enforcement officer who happened to witness the robbery immediately alerted other authorities. Within moments, members of the Komani K9 Unit, Crime Intelligence (CI), Traffic Officers, and Red Guard Security launched a coordinated pursuit of the suspects.

A chase ensued through parts of Komani, which ended in Westbourne, where the three suspects were apprehended. The operation was part of a multi-disciplinary policing effort that combined intelligence sharing and rapid tactical response.

One Suspect Still on the Run

The police confirmed that a fourth suspect remains at large and is believed to have fled with the stolen cash. Law enforcement agencies are continuing efforts to track down the remaining individual.

Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the investigation.

The Chris Hani District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, commended the rapid response and teamwork displayed by the units involved in the operation.
