Mayor Papiyana Leads Outreach in Zingquthu Village
KOMANI – The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality conducted a mayoral outreach in Zingquthu Village (Ward 18), led by Hon. Executive Mayor M. Papiyana, as part of its ongoing community engagement initiative aimed at strengthening service delivery and fostering transparent communication with residents.
The outreach formed part of the municipality’s broader programme to connect directly with local communities, identify their most pressing needs, and collaborate on sustainable solutions. The session focused on infrastructure development, public safety, and social services, which remain key priorities in the region.
During the engagement, municipal officials and community members discussed challenges affecting daily life in Zingquthu — including road maintenance, access to clean water, electricity connections, and support for local facilities. The Mayor emphasised the importance of partnerships between government structures, traditional leadership, and residents to ensure that development efforts are inclusive and effective.
“This outreach allows us to listen, respond, and plan together,” the Mayor said during the session. “Our goal is to make sure every ward feels heard and included in the municipality’s growth and service delivery plans.”
The programme also created a platform to share progress on ongoing and completed municipal projects, including road rehabilitation, community hall maintenance, and improvements in waste collection. Residents were briefed on future infrastructure plans and encouraged to participate actively in upcoming consultations and project monitoring.
Stakeholders from various departments — including Community Services, Technical Services, and Corporate Governance — were present to address specific issues and outline interventions being implemented to improve living conditions. The outreach concluded with an open-floor discussion where residents shared concerns and proposals directly with the Mayor and municipal representatives.
The Enoch Mgijima Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining open communication channels with communities through similar outreach sessions across all wards in the coming months.
