Foreign Nationals Arrested During Buffalo City Enforcement Operation.
The Eastern Cape Missing Person and Trafficking Unit, together with relevant stakeholders, conducted an awareness and enforcement operation in Buffalo City as part of efforts to combat trafficking in persons.
The programme began at the Shoprite Taxi Rank in KuGompo, where commuters, drivers and community members were given information about trafficking, warning signs and the importance of reporting suspected cases.
An integrated roadblock was later conducted on the N2 near Brakfontein.
According to the unit, foreign nationals found to be unlawfully in the country were arrested, while traffic fines were issued for relevant violations.
Vehicles transporting food were also inspected as part of compliance activities.
Officials said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to prevent trafficking, protect vulnerable people and strengthen public awareness across Buffalo City and the Eastern Cape.
