Cops walk into smoke-filled Lesseyton house and find 142kg of dagga!

A 33-year-old man is expected to appear in the Komani Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 3 July, on allegations of dealing in and possession of dagga following his arrest during the 30 June “March and March” operations in Lesseyton Village near Komani.

According to police, officers deployed in the area received information about a locked RDP house in Greenfields where people believed to be foreign nationals were reportedly inside.

Police approached the property and the owner opened the house for officers. Upon entering, members found the house filled with smoke and several occupants inside. After introducing themselves, police requested permission to conduct a search, which was granted.

During the search, officers allegedly discovered utility bins containing bundled dagga weighing approximately 142 kilograms with an estimated street value of more than R44,000. Police also recovered R3,500 in cash allegedly found under a mattress.

According to SAPS, the suspect allegedly admitted to selling dagga and indicated that the money recovered was proceeds from sales.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation is continuing with further investigations.

District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph praised the members involved in the operation, saying the arrest could have a positive impact on crime reduction in the area.

The allegations remain subject to court proceedings and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
