Municipality Confirms Electricity Interruption Following Hangklip Road Accident
KOMANI – The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality has confirmed that an electricity supply line has been switched off following a motor vehicle accident on Hangklip Road on Friday night, 16 October.
The municipality issued a notice on Saturday, 17 October, explaining that the accident damaged an electricity pole, causing overhead electrical cables to fall to the ground.
According to the municipality, the affected electricity supply line has been isolated and switched off as a safety precaution.
The municipality confirmed that its electrical team would carry out repairs during the course of Saturday, although no specific time for the restoration of electricity was provided.
The announcement follows an earlier report by Komani News highlighting the dangerous conditions on Hangklip Road.
During a visit to the scene at approximately 06:00 on Saturday, Komani News observed electrical wires hanging directly into the roadway following the accident.
The wires were extremely difficult to see, raising serious concerns about the safety of motorists and pedestrians using the road. At the time of the visit, no visible road closure or safety barriers had been put in place.
The municipality has now urged residents to treat all electrical cables as live and maintain a safe distance.
It also apologised for the inconvenience caused by the electricity interruption and assured residents that supply would be restored as soon as possible.
Residents and motorists are urged to remain cautious in the affected area until the damaged infrastructure has been repaired and the roadway declared safe.
