Chris Hani District bids farewell to Colonel Chris Strydom after 40 years of service.
KOMANI – After more than four decades of service to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Colonel Chris Strydom has retired, bringing an end to a distinguished policing career.
Strydom, who served as Chris Hani District Support Head, was honoured during a retirement ceremony on Thursday, 1 October 2026, attended by colleagues, senior police officials and family members.
Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph presented Strydom with a 40-year service certificate, praising his honesty, dedication and professionalism. He also thanked the Strydom family for their support throughout his career.
Acting Komani SAPS Station Commander Colonel N Simayile, who worked alongside Strydom for more than 17 years, described him as a respectful and hardworking official who treated everyone with dignity, regardless of rank.
Community Policing Forum chairperson P Faltein encouraged Strydom to remain involved in community policing, saying his extensive experience could continue to benefit local communities.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Strydom’s daughter, Mieke, reflected on the sacrifices her father made, including responding to duty-related calls at unexpected hours and missing family time.
In his farewell address, Strydom thanked his colleagues for their support throughout his career. Despite the challenges and sacrifices of policing, he said he was leaving SAPS with no regrets.
Whittlesea SAPS Station Commander Colonel K Ngcobo concluded by praising Strydom’s lasting contribution to policing and wishing him a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.
