Komani River cleanup effort cut short after dispute.

A cleanup effort along a section of the Komani River was cut short this week following a dispute involving municipal workers and the disposal of collected refuse.

The cleanup initiative with Clean Queenstown and AR Boards & Hardware on Monday to work on another section of the Komani River.

According to the Clean Queenstown, work started on Monday in an area described as one of the more populated overpass areas in Komani.

The team collected refuse from the area and placed it into bags as the cleanup progressed.

The group said the bags were then placed in a skip bin situated a few metres from the area where they were working.

According to the group’s account, municipal workers objected to the refuse bags being placed in the skip. The group further alleged that they were sworn at during the interaction.

Following the disagreement, the cleanup team decided to end its work earlier than planned.

Despite the incident, the group said it remained committed to its efforts to clean parts of Komani and would continue working towards its #CleanQueenstown campaign.

Komani News has approached Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality for comment on the incident.

The municipality’s response will be added once received.
