Komani runner bags rare four-race milestone

Komani Runner’s Club has celebrated a major achievement by local endurance runner Spelo “Ta Spish” Bobotyane, whose long-distance running record now includes permanent numbers in four of South Africa’s most demanding races.

According to the club, Bobotyane has earned permanent numbers after completing the Buffs Marathon 10 times, the Two Oceans Marathon 10 times and the Comrades Marathon 10 times. He has also secured a permanent number for completing the Washie 100 Miler five times.

The achievements recognise years of commitment to road running and the demanding preparation needed to repeatedly finish major events. The Comrades Marathon, between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, is among the country’s most recognised ultra-marathons, while the Washie is a challenging 100-mile race in the Eastern Cape.

Komani Runner’s Club said Bobotyane continues to inspire fellow runners while balancing his work commitments.

“Whilst on duty, we don’t forget Washie,” the club said, congratulating him on what it described as an outstanding year.

“What a year Ta Spish, we are so proud of you.”

The milestone adds to a growing list of achievements for Bobotyane and puts the spotlight on the dedication of Komani runners competing on some of South Africa’s toughest endurance-running stages.
