Queen’s annihilate Selborne 55-15 at House of Pain

Queen’s College Boys’ High School produced a commanding performance at The Rec on Saturday, defeating Selborne College’s 1st XV 55-15 in their latest schoolboy rugby encounter.

Queen’s took control during an impressive opening half, playing with pace and purpose as they repeatedly broke through the Selborne defence. The home side went into the halftime break holding a 24-10 advantage.

Queen’s appeared to lose some momentum during the opening stages of the second half, allowing Selborne a brief opportunity to settle into the contest. However, the home side soon shifted back into gear and finished the match strongly, adding another 31 points after the interval.

The emphatic victory delighted the home crowd at a ground famously known as the “House of Pain”.

“It is so good to see Selborne getting a hiding at the House of Pain,” one spectator said after the match.

Other spectators suggested that Selborne’s first team was currently going through a rebuilding phase. Selborne also entered Saturday’s fixture following a defeat to Hudson Park’s 1st XV at Selborne College the previous weekend.

Queen’s also recorded victories in the 2nd XV match, winning 30-5, while the 6th XV claimed a narrow 17-15 victory and the 7th XV won 26-20. The Queen’s U16A side defeated Selborne 30-21, while the U16B teams drew 12-12.

Selborne enjoyed greater success across several of the remaining fixtures, including victories in the 3rd, 4th and 5th XV matches and most of the U15 and U14 encounters.

However, the afternoon’s headline belonged firmly to the Queen’s 1st XV, whose 40-point victory provided a powerful statement performance in front of their home supporters.
