A total of 500 families in Who Can Tell Village in Komani received title deeds from the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality on Friday, in what officials described as a major milestone towards restoring dignity and securing land ownership for residents.

The handover ceremony brought together hundreds of beneficiaries from different age groups and socio-economic backgrounds, many of whom have waited years for formal ownership documents for their homes.

Title deeds are considered an important step in giving residents legal ownership of their properties, allowing families greater security and the ability to pass homes on to future generations.

The municipality said some households identified during the process would also receive support packages based on their specific needs.

Residents who received the documents appeared emotional and celebratory as they officially became property owners.

The programme forms part of broader government efforts aimed at accelerating title deed distribution and addressing long-standing housing ownership challenges in communities across South Africa.
