74-year-old arrested with illegal firearm in Cofimvaba raid
Cofimvaba – A 74-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court following his arrest for the alleged illegal possession of a firearm during a police operation in the area.
The arrest was carried out on 23 April 2026 by members of the Komani Flying Squad working together with the Komani K9 Unit. Police said the operation was conducted after information was received about the alleged illegal possession of firearms within the Cofimvaba policing precinct.
According to the South African Police Service, officers were in possession of a search warrant when they proceeded to a homestead in the Mncuncuzo Administration area. During the search, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of a Norinco pistol.
Police further stated that the firearm’s serial number had been filed off. Firearms with removed serial numbers are typically difficult to trace, and their possession is treated as a serious offence under South African law.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and is expected to make his first appearance before the Cofimvaba Magistrate’s Court on 24 April 2026. He is expected to face a charge related to the illegal possession of a firearm.
The arrest forms part of a broader police operation conducted across multiple areas within the Cofimvaba policing precinct, targeting both illegal firearms and suspected drug-related activities.
