MEC Hands Over Digital Equipment to Boost Ngcobo School

Ngcobo – The Eastern Cape Department of Education has taken a step towards strengthening digital learning in rural schools, with the official handover of multimedia production equipment at Mzikayise Dalasile High School.

The handover was led by the provincial MEC for Education, who visited the Ngcobo-based school as part of an initiative aimed at improving access to modern learning tools. The programme is being implemented in partnership with telecommunications company MTN.

According to the department, the equipment is intended to enhance teaching and learning by introducing learners to digital content creation and multimedia skills. This includes tools that can support subjects such as media studies, technology, and other digital-focused learning areas.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to prepare learners for the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), where digital literacy and technological skills are increasingly essential.

Officials said the introduction of multimedia production resources will allow learners to engage more actively with content, moving beyond traditional classroom methods. It is also expected to help bridge the digital divide, particularly in rural and under-resourced areas.

The department described the programme as a step towards advancing quality education, with a focus on equipping learners with practical, future-ready skills.
