Motorists across South Africa, including those in Komani and surrounding towns, can look forward to welcome relief at the pumps next week. The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has announced a decrease in all fuel types, effective Wednesday, 5 November 2025, which is the first Wednesday of the month when price changes are traditionally implemented.

According to the official statement, the price adjustments are as follows:

  • Petrol 93 (ULP and LRP): decrease of 61 cents per litre

  • Petrol 95 (ULP and LRP): decrease of 57 cents per litre

  • Diesel 0.05% sulphur (wholesale): decrease of 33 cents per litre

  • Diesel 0.005% sulphur (wholesale): decrease of 31 cents per litre

  • Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): decrease of 13 cents per litre

The department attributed the decreases to lower international petroleum product prices and a slightly stronger rand during the review period. The strengthening of the local currency helped reduce import costs, while global oil prices stabilised after recent fluctuations.

For Komani residents, where transport costs directly influence the price of goods and services, this fuel price cut will bring some much-needed financial relief. Taxi operators, delivery services, and long-distance commuters are likely to benefit the most, while households using paraffin for cooking and lighting will also experience minor savings.

Local petrol attendants in Komani have welcomed the announcement, saying many customers have been feeling the pinch of rising costs in recent months. “People are always asking when prices will go down. At least now there’s some good news,” said one employee at a station along Cathcart Road.

This marks the second consecutive month of fuel price reductions, following a period of steep increases earlier this year that placed pressure on consumers across the country. However, the DMRE cautioned that prices could still change in the coming months, depending on global crude oil trends, shipping costs, and currency movements.

Motorists are encouraged to fill up before Tuesday midnight, when the new prices officially take effect at all fuel stations nationwide.
