Power Outage Alert: Cable Fault Affects Parts of Komani CBD and Surrounding Areas
KOMANI – The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality has issued a notice confirming a widespread power outage affecting parts of Komani’s central and surrounding areas due to a major cable fault near Built It.
According to the municipality’s technical services department, the fault has disrupted electricity supply to the Townhall Substation and Victoria Substation, which are responsible for powering several key zones in the town. Areas currently without power include parts of the CBD, Nonesi Mall, Bede, and New Rest.
Municipal technicians and electricians were immediately dispatched to the site early this morning to assess the extent of the damage. Preliminary findings suggest that underground cables in the vicinity may have been damaged due to ongoing infrastructure strain and aging electrical components.
The outage has disrupted operations for several local businesses, including shops and offices in the CBD, as well as affecting power supply to residential areas. Nonesi Mall has also experienced partial blackouts, with backup generators being used to keep essential services running.
The municipality has urged residents to switch off electrical appliances during the outage to prevent potential damage when power is restored.
Residents have also been encouraged to stay updated through the municipality’s official communication channels and social media pages, where real-time progress updates will be shared.
The Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality apologised for the inconvenience caused and assured the public that all efforts are being made to complete repairs and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.
Further updates will follow once the repair work has been completed and electricity supply is restored to all affected areas.
