Midros 7 Pump Station Vandalised Just Two Days After Repairs

Residents of Midros 7 are facing further uncertainty over their water supply after a municipal borehole pump station was vandalised again, just two days after repairs were completed.

Chris Hani District Municipality confirmed in a public notice issued on Sunday, 25 October 2026, that the facility had been targeted repeatedly by thieves.

According to the municipality, repairs were carried out on Thursday after power cables were stolen from the pump station. The repairs restored the facility to operation, but it remained functional for only two days before another incident occurred.

During the latest incident, thieves reportedly removed internal components from the station’s electrical control panel, causing further damage to the infrastructure.

The municipality expressed concern that the repeated incidents were taking place at a facility located directly within the Midros 7 community.

It also acknowledged that residents had repeatedly raised concerns about the vandalism and the need for stronger measures to protect municipal infrastructure.

The municipality condemned the theft and vandalism, saying the damage undermines service delivery, places additional financial pressure on municipal resources and affects residents who depend on a reliable water supply.

However, the notice did not indicate when the latest damage would be repaired or what measures would be introduced to prevent further incidents.
