Tylden, Eastern Cape – Two farm employees, aged 42 and 63, are facing serious charges after police arrested them for the alleged theft of nine goats from their employer. The arrests follow a detailed investigation launched after the farmer reported the missing livestock.

It is further alleged that the duo attempted to sell the nine goats to a business owner in Kwavenene, Birch, for R1500 each. However, subsequent investigations revealed a twist in the tale: the suspects were allegedly paid only R8 000 for the entire herd.

The farm owner lodged a formal complaint with the Tylden SAPS, prompting a thorough probe that culminated in the arrests on Tuesday, December 9, around 22:00, at the suspects’ workplace.

The duo has completed all necessary administrative processes and is scheduled to appear before the Komani Magistrate’s Court soon to face the allegations of stock theft.

Poverty and Crime

District Commissioner Major General Rudolph Adolph commended the work done by the Tylden police and expressed the need for more arrests to combat this specific type of crime.

“Stock theft as a crime contributes to the increase in poverty rate within our communities which leads to the rise in crime statistics,” Major General Adolph stated. “The livestock is the bank of a farmer.”
