The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says KuGompo-based attorney Precious Muleya is facing fraud charges linked to Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims valued at about R5.2 million.

Muleya briefly appeared in the KuGompo Magistrates’ Court on a charge of fraud, alternatively theft, relating to claims allegedly submitted on behalf of at least 12 beneficiaries.

According to the NPA, she was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on 30 September 2026 after allegedly evading arrest. She first appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court before the matter was transferred to the Eastern Cape.

The Hawks investigation allegedly found that between August 2019 and February 2021, the RAF paid claims ranging from R150 000 to R947 000.

The NPA alleges that some claims were supported by false or forged medico-legal reports and invoices, and that several claimants had not been assessed or treated by the professionals named in the documents.

The matter has been postponed to 9 October 2026 for a formal bail application, which the State intends to oppose.

Muleya has not been convicted, and the allegations remain before the court.
