SAPS and Education Department host youth safety indaba in Cacadu.
The Eastern Cape SAPS, in partnership with the Department of Basic Education, hosted a Provincial Junior Commissioners and Peer Educators Indaba at Ntsokotha High School in Cacadu, Chris Hani District.
The two-day event, held from 29 to 30 September 2026, brought together SAPS and education officials, school management, School Governing Body representatives and learners from districts across the province.
According to SAPS, the programme forms part of its School Safety Strategy and aims to involve young people in addressing crime, violence and other challenges affecting schools.
Learners participated in discussions on teenage pregnancy, drug and substance abuse, sexual harassment, gender-based violence, cyberbullying, bullying, behavioural challenges and mental health.
Provincial Commander for Crime Awareness and Partnership Policing, Colonel Sibongile Soci, said participating learners would develop practical and research-driven proposals to address challenges affecting schools and communities.
Chris Hani District Commissioner Major General Rudolf Adolph, delivering the keynote address on behalf of the Provincial Commissioner, commended the learners for their participation and called for continued cooperation between police, education authorities, schools and communities to improve school safety.
