Agriculture MEC visits farmers at Chris Hani Agricultural Show
Eastern Cape MEC for Agriculture Nonceba Kontsiwe joined local municipal leaders for a walkabout among farmer stalls at the Chris Hani Agricultural Show on Tuesday, 29 September.
Kontsiwe was accompanied by Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality Mayor Cllr Siyabulela Zangqa, Integrated Planning and Economic Development (IPED) Portfolio Head Cllr Nobuntu Mgidi, members of the municipality’s Executive Committee and ward councillors.
The delegation visited stalls at the Indoor Sport Centre, where farmers displayed a range of produce, products and agricultural initiatives.
During the walkabout, the delegation interacted with local farmers as well as producers from other parts of the Chris Hani District, hearing more about their farming activities and the products they had brought to the show.
The agricultural show provides farmers with an opportunity to showcase their work while bringing together producers and government representatives from across the district.
The visit also gave participating farmers an opportunity to engage directly with provincial and local government representatives about their agricultural activities.
Farmers at the event showcased locally produced goods and highlighted agricultural initiatives taking place in different communities across the district.
The Chris Hani Agricultural Show was continuing at the Indoor Sport Centre on Tuesday, with farmers and other stakeholders participating in the programme.
