Brakklof, Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality – The Eastern Cape Department of Agriculture has carried out its annual blanthrax vaccination and dipping programme in Brakklof, in an effort to protect livestock and strengthen disease prevention among local farmers.

The initiative, conducted as part of routine animal health interventions, focused on reducing the risk of serious livestock diseases while improving overall herd protection in the area.

According to the department, the programme forms a critical part of ongoing efforts to support farming communities and ensure the long-term sustainability of livestock production. By combining vaccination with dipping, the intervention helps address both internal and external threats to animal health.

Officials confirmed that the campaign was successfully implemented, with participation from farmers and community members who brought their livestock for treatment.

The department noted that preventative measures such as these are essential in rural and farming communities, where livestock plays a significant economic and livelihood role. Healthy animals contribute directly to food security, income stability, and broader agricultural resilience.

The department also expressed appreciation to those who supported the programme on the ground, including local farmers who ensured their animals were presented for treatment.

The vaccination and dipping effort was supported by Animal Health Technician Sintu Hala and Community Animal Health Worker Siphosethu Teto, who assisted in coordinating and delivering the services.

Authorities say similar programmes will continue across the region as part of a wider strategy to safeguard animal health and promote resilient farming systems.
