Man remanded in custody after alleged farm murder near Tylden

KOMANI, EASTERN CAPE – A 37-year-old man has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Komani Magistrate’s Court in connection with a murder that allegedly took place at a farm near Tylden.

Sinethemba Gashiya appeared in court on Tuesday, 31 March 2026, following his arrest in relation to the incident. The matter was postponed to 7 April 2026 for a formal bail application. He remains in custody.

According to a media statement issued by SAPS spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela on behalf of the Office of the Provincial Commissioner in the Eastern Cape, the case relates to the fatal stabbing of a 31-year-old man at Weldon Farm Estate on 30 March 2026.

It is alleged that the deceased was stabbed by the 37-year-old accused following accusations of having an affair with his wife.

Information provided states that the altercation reportedly began on Sunday, 29 March 2026, and continued into the following day. It is further alleged that the suspect attacked the deceased while he was on his way to fetch cattle from the veld for milking.

The victim died at the scene.

Police confirmed that the suspect was arrested and subsequently appeared before the Komani Magistrate’s Court.

The District Commissioner grossly condemns the act but hopes for justice to be served, an extra mile to be taken to get to the roots of the matter.

No further details have been released at this stage as the matter is now before the court.

The case has been postponed to 7 April 2026 for a formal bail application. Gashiya remains in custody.
