Water Distribution Rolled Out in Nxuba as Pump Station Repairs Continue
Nxuba, Eastern Cape – The Chris Hani District Municipality has activated water distribution in parts of Nxuba (Cradock) as efforts continue to restore supply following a prolonged outage.
According to the municipality, water tankers have been deployed to various affected areas while repair work is underway at the Geelbooi Pump Station. The damage to the facility, combined with recent electricity-related challenges, has disrupted water supply to residents for several days.
Communities in Nxuba and surrounding areas, including Middelburg, have been experiencing ongoing water shortages, with some residents left without water since last week.
The latest intervention follows earlier reports by Komani News on 15 March, which detailed how residents had already endured at least three days without water, raising concerns about service delivery and access to basic resources.
Municipal teams are continuing with repair work at the pump station while water distribution remains in place to provide temporary relief. Authorities have not yet provided a confirmed timeline for the full restoration of water services.
Residents are advised to use water sparingly and to collect water from designated tankering points as operations continue.
The municipality says the situation is being closely monitored as repair efforts progress.
