Water Supply Engine Stolen, Tendergate Left Without Water
Residents in the Tendergate area have been left without water after thieves reportedly stole a water supply engine and vandalised municipal infrastructure overnight.
According to a statement from the Chris Hani District Municipality, the incident occurred during the night, leaving the local water supply system damaged and unable to operate.
Municipal officials said the theft of the engine and vandalism of the system disrupted water supply to the community.
Infrastructure Vandalised
The municipality confirmed that a water supply engine was stolen and parts of the system were vandalised during the incident. As a result, the infrastructure responsible for pumping or supporting water delivery is currently not functioning.
Residents in Tendergate are therefore experiencing water outages while the matter is being addressed.
Municipal infrastructure vandalism has become an ongoing challenge across many areas, with theft of equipment often leading to service disruptions that affect entire communities.
Case Opened With SAPS
The municipality stated that the matter has been reported to the South African Police Service, and a case has been opened.
Investigations are expected to focus on identifying those responsible for the theft and damage to the water system.
Officials emphasised that vandalism and theft of public infrastructure are serious criminal offences that directly affect residents who depend on these essential services.
Call for Community Assistance
The municipality is urging residents to assist in protecting public infrastructure by reporting any suspicious activity near water systems or municipal equipment.
Community members who witness theft, vandalism, or suspicious behaviour are encouraged to report it immediately to the municipality’s Customer Care Call Centre on 0800 100 100.
